How to Get Your Pool Ready for the Summer

Summer is upon us, and that means that it’s time to get your pool ready. It would be great if you could just lift the cover and jump in, but that, unfortunately, is not the case. Here are the steps you need to take to make your pool usable for the summer.

Clear It Up

Your pool will likely be quite dirty, perhaps even a very deep color of green. Turn on the filtration system and let it run until your entire pool is clean. Make sure to put all the filtration system parts that were removed for the winter back into place and remove any plugs. It may take a few days until your pool clears up.

Shock Your Pool

At the same time, it’s a good idea to shock your pool to clean it from all the bacteria that accumulated over the winter. Shocking your pool is the process of using a large amount of chlorine to clean up the bacteria. Shock it after the dark for the best effect; the sun’s rays can lessen the chlorine’s strength.

Put Away Your Cover

When putting away your cover, make sure that it is entirely dry. Store it in a safe and sealed container to protect it from any damage.

Test Your Pool’s Water

Before using your pool, you’ll want to test your pool’s water to measure the levels of mineral content, alkalinity, pH and chlorine. If they are abnormal, you’ll need to adjust them for safe use. You’ll need a professional to test it for you.
